When the Dorm Room Blues Hit: a Mother's Guide to Ease Her Daughter's Homesickness


If your daughter is already on campus and you’ve gotten that dreaded text—“Mom, I hate it here”—your heart probably sank. It's the worst feeling when our girls suffer and are far away from us.

Even the most confident, excited girls find themselves sitting in their dorm room one night thinking, I don’t fit in. I miss home. Maybe I made a mistake. I want to go home.

Here’s the truth: homesickness is normal. It doesn’t mean she’s failing, and it doesn’t mean you didn’t prepare her enough. It’s simply part of the transition.

But just because it’s common doesn’t make it easy.
